My name is Katie Timmins. I am swimming from Skerries to Rockabill and back to raise much needed funds for the Skerries RNLI.

RNLI volunteer lifeboat crews provide a 24-hour search and rescue service all around the UK and Ireland, while lifeguards keep a careful watch on the UK’s busiest beaches. RNLI lifesaving and drowning prevention depend on supporter fundraising and the generous donations that you and others give.

Story

A message from Katie post swim

I am absolutely blown away by the generosity of so many people. Your donations turned my mad idea to swim around Rockabill into something meaningful and impactful. I am very grateful for that. The money raised will make a huge difference to Skerries RNLI, a small lifeboat station with a big impact.

I am very proud of myself for completing the swim. I really didn't know if I would be able to do it! It was very tough at times with strong currents pulling me off course, bigger waves than expected relentlessly pushing me back, and islands that just refused to come closer to me (St Patrick's island, I'm looking at you!!). But I did it, I swam out, sat up on the Rock with a cup of tea, and then I swam back. I'm very proud of myself.

Mikey would think I'm mad! But he always supported my crazy endeavours with a calm and steady belief in me. I felt him with me all throughout swim and I know he would be proud of me.

A message from Skerries RNLI

The whole crew at Skerries RNLI would like to both congratulate Katie for her incredible achievement and thank her for fundraising for Skerries RNLI.

The generosity of Katie and her supporters means so much to everyone here.

It is no understatement that a community launches a Lifeboat and the funds raised will be of great benefit to the station. in the week up to the swim, in addition to the 24-hour lifeboat on call, the crew delivered water safety training to over 600 kids, something that will continue over the summer. Your support makes all this happen.

The incredible support from Katie and her backers on this page will help fund what we do in our community, it will support the availability of Skerries Lifeboat 24-7, 365 days a year. It supports the fuel, the safety kit our crew wear and supports every volunteer we have.

To commit to such an undertaking is a great testament to Mikey. Katie should rightly be very proud of her achievement and the whole crew here is very grateful for the support.
