Thank you to all those who donated to Mildmay in support of 2019 World AIDS Day RED RUN
Mildmay has been a charity for over one hundred and fifty years, specialising in HIV for over thirty, delivering quality care and treatment, prevention work, rehabilitation, training, education and health strengthening in the UK and East Africa.
Our vision Life in all its fullness for everyone in Mildmay's care is at the heart of the charity and our mission to transform and empower lives through the delivery of quality health services, treatment and care in the UK and Africa will be what we are about as we step confidently into the future.
Our inspiration and values derive from our Christian foundations. These values enriched and shared by many people, including those of other faiths and of no religious faith, underpin all our work.
The 2019 RED RUN took place against the backdrop of a momentous time in the world of HIV. We have seen a dramatic fall in new HIV diagnosis, particularly amongst gay men in London. London has exceeded the UNAIDS 90:90:90 target.
Undetectable=Untransmittable is an evidence-based statement. The brilliant fact that a person living with HIV diagnosed early and accessing treatment is likely to live as long as someone of a similar age and background.
However, amongst the good news the challenge remains that not everyone, and not all communities are benefiting. 103,000 people are currently living with HIV in the UK (50,000 in London). HIV stigma is still a reality and there are still too many people undiagnosed and diagnosed late. Funding cuts to the HIV sector are still all too common despite the fact that HIV support services change lives.
