Story

Miles for Minds 2026

In 2023, the Jayaswal family trekked to Everest Base Camp and raised over £45,000 for the children of Galaxy Gurukul. Now, father and son are taking on a new challenge: the Great Eastern Run 2026.

On 11 October 2026, Vikash Jayaswal(52), Co-Founder of Galaxy of Homes, will take on the 21.1 km Great Eastern Run Half Marathon, while his son Vivaan Jayaswal (13) will run the 5 km race in Peterborough. They aim to raise £5,000 for Galaxy Gurukul, a free school supporting over 300 underprivileged children in Kolkata, India.

Together, they are running to help provide education, opportunity and hope to children who deserve a brighter future.

About Galaxy Gurukul

Galaxy Foundation Ltd was established in the UK on 27 February 2023 with a mission to make quality education accessible to every child, regardless of their socio-economic background.

Founded under Galaxy Foundation, Galaxy Gurukul is a not-for-profit school dedicated to providing completely free, high-quality education and opportunities to underprivileged children in Kolkata, India. Many Galaxy Gurukul pupils are first-generation learners, meaning they are the first members of their family ever to attend school.

Today, the school supports over 300 students by providing:

• Free education

• Books and learning materials

• School uniforms

• Nutritious meals

• Healthcare support

• A safe and nurturing learning environment

For many of these children, education is more than just learning—it is an opportunity to break the cycle of poverty, realise their potential and build a brighter future for themselves and their families.

Everest Base Camp 2023 – The Journey That Started It All

Having completed the Everest Base Camp trek together as a family, they know that every challenge is easier when people come together behind a meaningful cause.

In 2023, the Jayaswal family embarked on an ambitious challenge: trekking to Everest Base Camp to raise funds for Galaxy Gurukul.

What began as a personal challenge became a powerful fundraising campaign that captured the attention of supporters across the UK and beyond. Thanks to the generosity of donors, the campaign raised over £45,000, helping Galaxy Gurukul expand its reach and provide educational opportunities to more children.

The Everest Base Camp challenge also received significant media coverage, including features on BBC Radio, ITV News and other UK media outlets, helping raise awareness of the importance of education for underprivileged children.

The success of the Everest challenge demonstrated what can be achieved when a community comes together behind a meaningful cause.

Training for a New Challenge

Behind every mile of the Miles for Minds 2026 campaign is dedication, perseverance, and teamwork. The Galaxy Gurukul team would like to extend its heartfelt thanks to Jack, the family's trainer, whose support was instrumental in helping Vikash and his family successfully complete the Everest Base Camp Trek in 2023. Today, Jack is once again guiding their preparation as Vikash takes on his first-ever half marathon at the age of 52, while Vivaan trains for his 5km challenge.

The Great Eastern Run 2026 Challenge

Inspired by the success of Everest Base Camp, Vikash and Vivaan are once again taking on a personal challenge to support the children of Galaxy Gurukul.

On 11 October 2026:

• Vikash Jayaswal (52) will run the Great Eastern Run Half Marathon, covering 21.1 km(13.1 miles).

• Vivaan Jayaswal (13) will take part in the Anna's Hope 5km Fun Run, covering 5 km(3.1 miles).

Together, they are running with one purpose: helping children access the education and opportunities they deserve.
