Mills brothers take on Wainwright's Coast to Coast Walk for the Taxi Charity

On 16 June 2025, Colin, Tony and David Mills will set off on Wainwright’s iconic Coast to Coast Walk, covering nearly 200 miles from St Bees on the Cumbrian coast to Robin Hood’s Bay in North Yorkshire.

The Taxi Charity For Military Veterans (formerly known as the London Taxi Benevolent Association For War Disabled) was formed in Fulham in 1948. Its object then was to help war veterans, in their homes and hospitals, throughout London and the home counties, by providing entertainment, outings and much needed specialised equipment. Our aim now is simple: to work for the benefit, comfort and enjoyment of military veterans, to the best of our ability. For our annual Worthing outing, we now collect veterans from all over London, including the Royal Hospital Chelsea and other Veterans' Homes, as well as those who still live in their own homes. This amounts to over 300 ex-service men and women and over 130 taxis. In order to fund these outings, we seek donations from the general public and organisations, and we rely on volunteer London licensed taxi drivers to provide their taxis and time for free.

Story

Colin, Tony and David are aiming to raise £1,000 for the Taxi Charity. They will also be celebrating a very special milestone - Tony’s 60th birthday!

Their route will take them across three stunning national parks – the Lake District, the Yorkshire Dales and the North York Moors – with plenty of hills, rain and laughs along the way.

This isn’t their first walking adventure for a good cause. Back in 2023, they took on Hadrian’s Wall for Colin’s 60th, to raise funds for the Taxi Charity. They had such a brilliant time that they decided to do something similar for Tony’s big birthday.

We thoroughly enjoyed spending that time together on Hadrian’s Wall,” said Tony. “So, when my 60th came round, the idea of another challenge and raising money again for the Taxi Charity just felt right.
