Story
Mollie is aged 2 who lives on a remote Scottish island, The Isle of Lewis. Mollie was born 3 months premature and from day 1 has shown how strong, resilient, feisty and determined she is, traits I know will serve her well. In October 2024 we received Mollie’s diagnosis of Quadriplegia Cerebral Palsy. This diagnosis changed all of our lives and left us wondering what the future holds for us as a family.
We have been navigating through this together with the love and support of family and friends. Mollie’s life consists of various weekly therapies through the NHS, various pieces of equipment to help support her and her development. Mollie requires support with all daily living tasks and we want to do everything we can to help her on this journey to hopefully one day walking with aids but it comes with a cost.
To enable Mollie to have the bright and fulfilling future we hope and believe she can, it requires intense physiotherapy. This therapy enables the brain to rewire and create new pathways so Mollie can learn to walk and have some semblance of independence. Studies have shown that Neuroplasticity is crucial in the first five years of a person’s life.
As much as we have been working hard as a family with our amazing NHS team, moving forward the therapy that Mollie is going to need is expensive and on the mainland. We have enquired about hippotherapy, DMI, whole body vibration therapy and many more.
Mollie faces challenges every day. She gets extremely frustrated that her body won’t do what her brain is telling it to and this in turn saddens us. We want to do all we can for Mollie, to reach her full potential and it saddens us that money will dictate what her future will look like but we have exhausted all other avenues.
We would be eternally grateful for any contribution you could make towards Just4Children to give our beautiful daughter the best head start in life and hopefully get her walking with aids.
