In Monty's Footsteps

One step for every life. Henry Montgomery will walk the Normandy beaches on D-Day to honour the 22,540 named on the Memorial, raising funds to ensure their stories are shared with future generations through the education programme.

We have built a permanent British Memorial to the 22,540 men who gave their lives during the D-Day landings and the Battle of Normandy. With your support we can ensure that their sacrifice for our freedom is never forgotten.

Story

IN MONTY’S FOOTSTEPS

One step for every life

From 6 April to 6 June, Henry Montgomery is retracing the journey to D-Day taken by his grandfather, Field Marshal Bernard Montgomery.

Along the way, he is capturing the human stories behind D-Day through films, interviews and a podcast—ensuring these voices are not lost to history.

“These are not just names—they were lives. If we don’t tell their stories, who will?”

6 JUNE — THE FINAL WALK

On the 82nd anniversary of D-Day, Henry will walk 23km across Sword, Juno and Gold beaches—at the very time the first troops landed.

He will honour the 22,540 names on the British Normandy Memorial.

That is one life for every step.

WHY SUPPORT THIS?

As the Second World War passes from living memory, these stories risk being lost.

Your support helps ensure they are not.

Funds raised will support Operation Remembrance—the education programme of the British Normandy Memorial, bringing these stories to life for future generations.
