Story

Why take part in Morecambe Bay Day?

By taking part in a day dedicated to Morecambe Bay, schools will celebrate and learn about the Bay, and help raise money for local charity Morecambe Bay Partnership who champion the Bay and support its people, nature & heritage.

How your money will help the Bay?

Morecambe Bay Partnership are the Bay's coastal champions, working with communities to keep Morecambe Bay special and ensure people, nature and heritage here can thrive, now and in the future.

We, like you, want Morecambe Bay to stay special.

Here’s how your donations help:

• Morecambe Bay, at 308 km2, is one of the UK’s most important biodiversity hotspots, but it needs help to survive – donations help to protect internationally important birds and wildlife that call the Bay home.

• Tackling litter pollution – supporting communities to clean up our coast and countryside.

• Access for all - improving access to the countryside for people living with disabilities or facing barriers so that more people can enjoy the Bay and its health benefits.

• Creating vital outdoor learning experiences for children and young people – many of whom never experience the coast and countryside on their doorstep.

• Bringing health and wellbeing programmes to the Bay’s communities through cycling, walking and community volunteering.

• Supporting volunteers to care for & celebrate the Bay’s precious heritage.

Fancy a target?

£50 could pay for a school's workshop connecting young people to Morecambe Bay. £25 could support mobility scooter hire to help someone less mobile enjoy the coast. £10 could buy a pair of litter pickers for our beach care volunteers

Your donations and fundraising make a real difference and create impact!

The impact of our free mobility vehicle hire for exploring the Bay:

It is hard to describe the novelty of getting away from tarmac and into the countryside when walking is no longer possible. The tramper took us through woodlands full of bluebells onto the open fell with panoramic views and even a cuckoo calling. Perfect!

The impact of outdoor education on local young people discovering the Bay for the first time:

I love this place! I want to come back here

Wow. this is amazing

The impact of volunteers keeping Morecambe Bay clean and litter-free which benefits people, wildlife and coastal habitats:

We held a beach clean yesterday at Middleton Sands. We only had four volunteers this time, however, managed to collect 120kg of rubbish. Mainly the amount of rubbish was generated by the recent high tides - lots of plastic bottles, broken plastic crates, fishing rope etc. Also, some that appeared to have been discarded on the beach by visitors e.g. cans, beach toys, a caravan door and a child's electric car!

Clearing litter like this from Morecambe Bay makes for a healthier, cleaner coastal environment. That benefits communities, visitors, and wildlife.
