Marlow Sports Club: Building for the Future
Marlow is proud of its sporting heritage, and at its heart is Marlow Sports Club (MSC), where sport has been played since 1871. Founded in 1949 to run and develop the site, MSC today welcomes players of all ages across cricket, hockey, tennis, football and pétanque, plus the Striders (running), Riders (cycling) and canoeing on the river. (Click here for more on MSC's history.)
Our pitches are outstanding, but our clubhouse hasn't kept pace. The Old Pavilion, built in the early 1900s, has limited use and costly, ageing plumbing and electrics despite refurbishment. The New Pavilion, built in 1973, lacks accessible entry, has too few toilets, and offers inadequate changing facilities — especially for women — alongside high maintenance costs.
The Plan
We're upgrading in two phases, to keep facilities running throughout the work and spread the cost:
- Phase 1 (~£1.2m): Replace the Old Pavilion with a new two-storey block, including a new entrance and lift.
- Phase 2 (~£0.8m): Refit the New Pavilion, upstairs and downstairs, once the new block is open.
What It Delivers
- Four large and two small all-gender changing rooms, each with its own toilet and shower
- Full accessibility: ramp, lift, wider doors, accessible toilets and shower
- A new Community Room for midweek use by local groups
- A larger Club Room and bar, with a new first-floor toilet block
- A balcony overlooking the hockey pitch and a new tea and coffee kiosk
- Lower energy and maintenance costs
- All built on the current site, with broadly the same footprint and a smarter look
The result: a clubhouse that serves not just our sports, but the wider Marlow community.
