Some patients can experience loneliness, depression and anxiety relating to their conditions. They can feel isolated from family members and have a lack of motivation or sense of purpose, a friendly PAT (Pets As Therapy) visit is a chance for patients to chat and reminisce about past experiences or much-loved pets.
Studies have shown that interacting with a PAT pet can improvea persons mental health and overall wellbeing. There's often anincreased connection with carers and family too, and those livingwith dementia can feel energised and elated. It comes down toa very simple truth: pets just make us feel happier.
