For more than sixty years, this belief has guided HYS. It continues to inspire our mission: creating fun, creative musical experiences for youth that spark a deep love for music
and lifelong connection to the culture of our islands.
Like the ‘uala plant—rooted in the soil that sustains it—HYS is grounded in Hawai‘i and nourished by our community. Our new apparel reflects this connection, featuring the ‘uala flower. Its five fused petals honor the five fundamentals of music: melody, texture, rhythm, form, and harmony. Whether a child is just beginning or growing into advanced musicianship, music offers nourishment that enriches joy, confidence, and wellbeing. -Randy Wong, President
