MUSIC SAVED MY LIFE

Organised by WAYout

MUSIC SAVED MY LIFE is the first big music show that WAYout has put on in the 14 years of our existence. It will star Mash P who lived 12 years on the street, and showcase other up and coming WAYout artists.

WAYout offers free training and facilities in music, film and the arts to street and disadvantaged youth in Sierra Leone

Story

WAYout presents our first big music show in Freetown 'Music Saved My Life'. Gigibonta Car Park, 8pm, November 11th

This is a milestone for WAYout and will not only showcase brilliant performers like Mash P and the Black Street Family, it will raise awareness across Sierra Leone of the work we do and how we, and music, change lives. All WAYout members are very excited about it and live shows are still unusual in Sierra Leone.

MASH P: lived 12 years on the streets and started recording with WAYout 8 years ago. With the support of us, Frank Turner and Bruce Dickinson of WaterBear College Mash made it to the UK on a Global Talent visa and studies music on a scholarship at ICMP. He performed at Glastonbury and toured with Frank Turner where he smashed it. He will be back in Sierra Leone to perform at this show and is an inspiration to other street youth. Most tickets will be free to street youth so we do not expect to cover costs through ticket sales and seek your support. It is hard to find sponsorship in country, although Orange have sponsored phones for live streaming. Other WAYout artists supporting will be The Black Street Family with Shargwan, king of the street. WAYout music studios were funded by The Joe Strummer Foundation.

Ghetto Genesis, one of our newer musicians, performance poets Overdose who won the National anti corruption poetry competition, Isatu a new poet, Dancers and others. Guests include Ceejay Mark who we worked with on the 'Artists for Peace' campaign many years ago and who is now a big star and Fantacee Wizz who also worked with WAYout and is now a well known female activist, poet and singer. The list goes on.

The show, and especially Mash P, will promote and inspire street youth to learn, express themselves through music and stay focused and new members to come in and register. The show is free to street youth and 30 new le. to others. www.instagram.com/mashpmusic facebook. https://fb.me/e/2ZBEjpEft
