We are Porthleven Town Band, a recently promoted second section band, registered charity and Third Section Champions of Great Britain. While we wouldn't be where we are today without the dedication of our players and our Musical Director, there is so much more that goes into our musical progress and providing free tuition. This includes the music itself, instruments, the bills for our bandroom, valve oil and countless other expenses including music stands.
Our current stands are either weak, broken or beyond use due to old age. This makes rehearsals and performances very challenging, with stands often collapsing, getting stuck or having to be shared among players when ideally every player would have their own stand. While we have kept as many as we can for outdoor use, we now need a brand new set to use in the bandroom, not only to preserve our old ones but to ensure we get the most out of our practices. The ideal stand for this is linked here (and pictured above) and costs £22. With the number of players in our band, buying a new set of stands for everyone would cost us about £770 which as a musical charity, is unfortunately an expense we are unable to afford.
This is why we have created the 'gift a music stand for Christmas' campaign! While we don't expect you to donate the entire cost of a music stand, each donation big or small will go towards this expense and with every £22 raised we will order a new stand for one of our players. We will also be keeping our followers updated with our fundraising efforts so please do keep an eye on our Facebook and Instagram pages to keep up to date with every new stand order!
We are lucky enough to have won every contest we have taken part in over the past year, bringing home nine trophies to our village of Porthleven, something we haven't taken for granted. In order to continue thriving both as a charity offering free instruments, teaching and facilities to aspiring musicians and with our quality of playing, it's important we have the basics. Thank you for your support and for reading about our friendly, aspiring, community band that we are so proud to be a part of.
