San Francisco’s MVS unit is in the vibrant, funky Lower Haight neighborhood. MVSers are supported by the First Mennonite Church of San Francisco (FMCSF); they have a strong sense of community and are committed to creating a safe space for doubts, questions, and exploration of new ideas. San Francisco MVSers are placed in agencies whose work FMCSF strongly supports. Participants engage with poverty, homelessness, social justice, education, and health issues in a vibrant urban setting. There are also opportunities to support mothers and children, work with people on the street, and advocate for nonviolent change in society. Placements typically include a combination of direct service and administrative support.
