As a result of the devastating earthquake of 28 March 2025, once more the people of Myanmar are suffering unimaginable hardships due to the catastrophic damage particularly in the centre of the country around Mandalay, Naypyidaw and Sagaing. Numbers of fatalities stand at over 3,600 at this moment, relief efforts are severely hampered due to bad weather and storms, damaged roads & bridges, destroyed communications networks and infrastructure. There are tens of thousands of people living on the streets and sleeping outdoors exposed to high temperatures, and lack of water and food. Hospitals are badly damaged or inundated with casualties, people are living in fear of aftershocks and in huge deprivation.
A4D staff are on the ground and working hard to provide support and aid where we can. The immediate priority is ensuring all people with Type 1 Diabetes (T1D) have continuous access to insulin supplies (many supplies have been destroyed or become inaccessible). A4D supports close to 150 young people in those areas, however we estimate over 200 young people living in the region with Type 1 Diabetes are facing imminent danger if they cannot access insulin, without which they will surely die. There will be multiple additional challenges over the coming weeks and months, which A4D are committed to address in order that these T1Ds can survive this immediate existential crisis.
By donating to A4D you will help us save the lives of many young people with T1D and we urge you to help us secure their futures at this critical moment in time. Please give generously and also share with others in your network so that we have sufficient resources to procure and deliver all necessary medical and humanitarian supplies.
