Story

“Help us end the stigma of addiction and celebrate recovery through our Rise Up Challenge – My Recovery Mountain’”

In September, teams of people using our services, staff and volunteers will each climb one of the Three Peaks and we need your support to make this happen. The challenge aims to inspire hope that recovery is possible, challenge stigma and celebrate recovery from addiction.

Recovery from addiction takes strength, courage, pride, passion, and lots of hard work. When we provide the right care and support many thousands of people celebrate their recovery from addiction each year. Addiction is a complex health condition that can affect anyone and effects everyone differently. Substance use is often heavily stigmatised, and that stigma stops us seeking help, it limits funding for vital recovery services, and curbs everyday opportunities for us to move forwards in life. Phoenix works to coax, inspire, and demonstrate a vision of what a life without substances can look like.

Just like overcoming addiction, summiting the top of a mountain is an impressive physical, mental, and emotional challenge. Recovery Mountain is about people. About teamwork, friendships and sharing. It’s about standing at the top of a mountain and being loud and proud about being in recovery. The challenges offer those taking part a platform to increase visibility and speak loudly to the rest of the world about what they have achieved, how far they have come in their recovery journeys and amplify a message of hope for thousands of others still facing addiction today.

Many of those who access our services come from disadvantaged backgrounds with limited positive life experiences and opportunities. The ‘Rise Up challenges’ aim to empower and enrich lives, expand horizons and be an experience that support people in their quest for a better life. The climbs will be supported by Phoenix staff and volunteers many in recovery themselves but also many who will take in part in solidarity alongside the people that use our services to raise awareness of Recovery and help to challenge stigma.

If you would like to donate money or fundraise towards this cause you can do so here or on one of our linked pages to support specific services or an individual person taking part. Please note, if the individual person or service that you raised money for or donated towards is no longer able to take part we are not able to issue a refund as all money raised will go towards the project as a whole.

Please also note that the first £250 raised per person will go towards funding the cost of the project which includes hiring/sourcing suitable equipment, travel expenses for those coming from across the country to take part and guides to ensure the climbs can be done safely. Your support will help make this project a reality.
