A Voice Made From Water

When my husband Dave was diagnosed with Neuroendocrine Cancer, I couldn't cure him. I couldn't make him better. So I decided to do the one thing I could: swim in the sea, every single day, to raise money for someone far cleverer than me to find better answers.

I started two days later. That was over 1,000 consecutive swims ago.

Where National Dip Day Began

Daily Dip 4 Dave was born out of that first challenge. Our very first National Daily Dip 4 Dave Day marked 365 days of consecutive swimming — one woman, one promise, one year in the sea. Since then it's grown into something none of us expected: a national, and now genuinely international, event, with people joining in "virtually" from all over the world — taking their own dip wherever they are, together with us.

Why This Matters

Neuroendocrine Cancer is often diagnosed late, partly because so few people — including some doctors — have heard of it.

This Year: A Quieter Day

This is our third National Daily Dip 4 Dave Day, on 10 October. I don't have the capacity to organise a big event this year, and rather than force it into being something it isn't, I've decided to let this year be quiet. But I don't want to let it pass — too much has happened, too many people have stood beside us, and the reason I first stepped into the water is still very much here.
