Story
TLC was founded in 1969 by three families who longed for their children to have the same rights as everyone else the right to reach their fullest potential close to home. Simply put there were no services available in the 1960s that offered that.
Over the last fifty-two years, TLC has grown and adapted to the needs and demands of our community. Today we serve more than 600 individuals and families across the Triangle with on-site and community-based programs and provide the care that our founding families could only dream of in the 1960s.
Our residential program is our longest-running service. Our team of direct care professionals and nursing staff enable us to provide long-term and loving homes to 42 individuals right here in our community, close to their families. We have three on-campus homes that provide 24-hour medical, personal living, and therapeutic care for thirty children and adults with complex medical needs and profound disabilities.
We also have three community group homes, which provide 24-hour assistance, health, and behavioral supports for twelve adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Our early education and preschool program bring young children of all abilities together in an enriched and nurturing learning environment. Our students benefit from low student-to-teacher ratios, inclusive classroom environments, autism supports, and therapies.
TLCs home and community-based services provide long-term support to enable an individual to live within their community by teaching life skills, supporting community participation, and providing respite for caregivers.
And lastly, our team of specialists provides autism therapy, diagnostic assessments, developmental and behavioral therapy, parent training, and consultation servicesforchildren, teens, and adults in our community.
With you by our side, we can continue to create strong communities where individuals of all abilities have equal rights and access, and where children and adults live in and are a part of their community. Lives are made better, and our communities are made stronger, because of TLC.
