IAHV Nepal Flash Floods Relief

Flash floods swept through Nepal's Himalayan border on 26 August, claiming over 500 lives with over 1,300 missing. Art of living team in Nepal is preparing to assess and respond to the affected and displaced people. Please help us reach more families

The International Association for Human Values (IAHV) was founded in Geneva in 1997, to foster, on a global scale, deeper understanding of the values that unite us as a human community. Our aim is to promote an awareness of the importance of human values, encourage their development, and to initiate and support projects in the UK and throughout the world that meet the fundamental objectives of the IAHV organisation in Human Values (and which meet our criteria).

Story

SITUATION

On the morning of 26 August, 2026, a glacier collapsed in the Himalayas.

What followed happened in minutes. A wall of water, rock, and debris surged down the Trishuli River, tearing through villages, bridges, roads, and power plants along the Nepal-Tibel border, sweeping through Nepal's Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Dhading, and Gorkha districts. Entire communities were swept away before anyone could reach them.

As of Sept 14th, 2026, at least 1,367 to 1,385 lives have been claimed, officially registered by disaster management authorities and the United Nations. Approximately 5,130 individuals remain unaccounted for, including hundreds of foreign nationals and local hydropower workers. Power and communications are down across vast stretches of steep, mountainous terrain where rescue teams are still fighting to get in.

Among the missing are trekkers, tourists, and ordinary families who woke up that morning to a normal day.

RESPONSE

IAHV, in partnership with the Art of Living team, Art of living team in Nepal is preparing to assess and respond to the affected and displaced people, providing MATERIAL RELIEF and TRAUMA SUPPORT for families, including children, facing unimaginable loss. In the mountains, where roads are broken and bridges are gone, getting there at all is part of the work.

Longer term, our programmes will help communities rebuild livelihoods. For survivors of disaster, material help alone is never enough. IAHV's TRAUMA RELIEF work equips people with the tools to process grief, reclaim a sense of agency, and face what comes next.

Your donation goes directly to people who need it today. Together, we can rebuild lives.

Thank you for standing with the people of Nepal. And please share this page.
