Calvert Stables Sponsored Trap Push · 31 August 2025 ·

The Lake District Calvert Trust provides residential outdoor activity courses for people of all ages with physical, sensory, learning, behavioural and/or mental disabilities. Its mission is to challenge disability through outdoor adventure. Pioneering equipment adaptations, and intensive, instructor-led activity programmes (that include climbing, abseiling, canoeing, sailing, horse/trap driving, archery, orienteering and paragliding), provide an environment whose aims are to teach, challenge, motivate, engender confidence in ability, promote independence, and foster integration. All instructors are highly trained and specialist qualified, and the facilities are specially adapted and fully accessible to all. The Lake District Calvert Trust provides a unique and life-changing experience for those with disabilities, who are encouraged to believe that it’s what you CAN do that counts.

Story

Help Us Make the Lakes Accessible to Everyone — One Hoofbeat at a Time

At Calvert Stables, we believe in the power of horses to transform lives. Whether it's the gentle rhythm of a ride or the freedom of carriage driving through the stunning Lake District landscape, our equestrian experiences are more than just moments of joy — they are building blocks of confidence, independence, and belonging.

For people with disabilities, opportunities like these can be life-changing.

But to continue offering these experiences to more — safely and inclusively — we need your help.

We’re Raising Funds for a New Ride & Drive Horse

Our current horses are doing an incredible job, but we need to add a specially trained, versatile horse to our team — a strong, steady partner who can offer both ridden and carriage driving sessions to people of all abilities.

This isn’t just about buying a horse — it’s about opening the gates wider, welcoming more people to experience the joy of the outdoors, and ensuring no one is left behind simply because they can’t access it in the usual way.

A new horse means:

More carriage driving for wheelchair users or those unable to ride

Greater capacity to meet growing demand

A trusted, trained horse able to support both activities

Continuing our mission to make the Lake District truly accessible for all.

Our OVERALL FUNDRAISING TARGET is £10,000. Which the team aim to raise over the coming months by completing many fundraisers and challenges, kicking it off with there Sponsored Trap Push.

You Can Help Us Take the Reins

Every donation, no matter the size, brings us closer to our goal. Whether you’ve seen the joy on a rider’s face or simply believe in equal access to the natural world, your support helps us change lives — one hoofbeat at a time.

Together, we can ensure everyone gets the chance to feel the wind in their hair, the reins in their hands, and the unmistakable bond between horse and human.

Thank you for being part of this journey.
