A few months ago our wonderful supporters helped us raise funds for our new generator. Unfortunately, this generator was taken from us and now desperately needs to be replaced. Our generator is our key source of power- it's what allows us to run our charging and WIFI station. A new generator will cost us £1,200. Previously, we have purchased generators which cost roughly £500, but we found they broke down easily and caused damage to peoples phones. After a lot of research, we decided to go with an inverter generator, which even though it is more expensive it requires less fuel to run and is better for charging electrical items such as phones without causing damage to battery life.

Our phone charging service is possibly our most highly valued one. Living rough means no easy access to electricity and so refugees in Calais and Dunkirk are reliant on power being brought to them. A reliable generator that can cope with the demand of hundreds of devices every week is vital to this. Without a charged phone, refugees cannot contact other organisations when they need their help. They can't stay in touch with their friends and family and let them know that they are safe. They are unable to access emergency services if they find themselves in a life-threatening situation. They are cut off from the Internet and the wider world. A charged phone empowers people to stay connected and to access vital information and services.
