Story
NICE – Centre for Movement Disorders is transforming the lives of children and adults living with movement disabilities such as cerebral palsy, Parkinson’s and other neurological conditions. Based in Birmingham, we support over 280 families every year from across the Midlands, many of whom travel long distances to access our specialist services.
Through Conductive Education (CE), we help people learn, develop and gain independence – focusing not on limitations, but on potential. From free early years sessions and nursery provision, to specialist education and support for young people up to 18, NICE is often a lifeline for families navigating an overstretched and fragmented system.
Now, we’re ready to take the next step.
Our vision: The NICE Hub
We want to refurbish our old student block and transform it into the NICE Hub – a welcoming, accessible community space bringing vital services together under one roof.
The Hub will allow us to extend our reach and provide joined-up support for children, adults and families affected by movement disorders, including:
Conductive Education sessions
Free legal support for SEND families
Wellbeing activities such as yoga and therapeutic workshops
Specialist services like orthotics to support mobility
A safe space for parents to work, rest or connect while their child is in a session
By creating a single, accessible hub, we can remove barriers, reduce stress for families and offer early, preventative support when it matters most. We expect to increase our reach by 50% in the first year, and double it in the years that follow.
Why this matters now
Families of children with disabilities are facing a perfect storm. Rising living costs, long waiting lists and underfunded health, care and education services mean many are struggling just to cope. On average, families with a disabled child face over £600 extra costs every month, simply to achieve the same standard of living as others.
Too often, children only receive help when they reach crisis point. At NICE, we believe early intervention, dignity and access to the right support can change lives – and futures.
How your support will help
We need to raise £80,000 to complete the refurbishment and bring the NICE Hub to life. Your donation will help create a space where:
children can learn and grow
families feel supported and listened to
people with disabilities can build confidence, friendships and independence
As we approach our 40th anniversary in 2026, this Hub will help ensure NICE can continue supporting families across Birmingham and the West Midlands for the next 40 years and beyond.
Every donation, big or small, brings us closer to opening the doors of the NICE Hub.
Thank you for being part of this journey 💙
