Overcoming Barriers — Hiking Snowdon and Raising Funds to Support the Taking In Mind Programme.

Organised by Give Back

Join us as we hike Snowden in memory of our beloved Princess Nicole. This challenge is more than a hike—it’s an opportunity to raise funds for mental health and support Givbak’s Taking in Mind Programme, empowering young people and their minds.

Northern Ireland has the highest suicide rate in the UK. Suicide rates here have risen by 30% in the last four years. Mental health services are at full capacity. GivBak recognised the pressures the healthcare system was facing and designed the SEP programme to support individuals while waiting for medical appointments. NI residents can be waiting over six months for appointments, and this can often lead them to feel trapped and in a cycle that feels there is little hope or options available. The SEP programme focuses on mindfulness and overcoming personal barriers and fears. The aim is to build confidence, raise self-esteem and help individuals to set goals for the future.

Our Story: Honouring Nicole’s Legacy and Supporting Mental Health

In 2019, I experienced the heartbreaking loss of my daughter, Nicole, who struggled with mental health challenges and tragically passed away at the age of 20. Her battle ignited a deep desire in me to create a legacy that would help others facing similar challenges. From this tragedy, GivBak was born—a charity dedicated to providing mental wellness training programs to those in need.

What began as a way to support adults facing mental health struggles has since evolved into a much larger mission. Over the years, I have witnessed firsthand the incredible impact mental wellness education can have. However, as I observed the mental health crisis deepening in Northern Ireland—particularly among young people—I knew more had to be done.

In response to this urgent need, we developed "Taking In Mind", a programme designed to support teachers and empower students to take charge of their mental and emotional well-being. Through research, dedication, and an unwavering commitment to making a difference, we’ve created a resource that not only equips educators with valuable tools but also fosters emotional resilience in young minds.

Currently, our pilot programme in a Northern Ireland secondary school has received overwhelmingly positive feedback from both teachers and students. The impact is clear—teachers are gaining a better understanding of their students' emotional needs, and students are empowering their minds, taking back control, and building mindfulness to navigate the challenges they face.

But this is just the beginning.

Our ultimate goal is to have the Taking In Mind programme officially certified, ensuring it can reach even more schools and provide a trusted, evidence-based resource for mental wellness education.

This year, in honour of Nicole’s memory, we are hiking Snowden to raise awareness for mental health and fund the expansion and certification of the Taking In Mind programme. By supporting this cause, you’re helping us reach more schools, more teachers, and more young people in need of the tools to build healthier minds.
