Story

We are the National Neurodiversity Youth Council. We are a group of 20 young people representatives of various ND charities from around the UK.

We urgently need to raise £10,000 by September 30th to cover the cost of a 48 hour educational visit to Auschwitz in Poland to learn about racism, eugenics and how this was used to discriminate against children and adults with 'ND's such as dyslexia, autism, dyscalculia, ADHD, Tourette's, dyspraxia and other learning differences and of course antisemitism.

Our overall aims as a group of young people aged 16+

1. To amplify the voices of young people with neurodiversity on matters that affect them.

2. To support these young people to build a community that will co-produce educational and support resources for other neurodiverse people to enable them to overcome health challenges, educational underachievement and barriers to employment by advocating for change in education, health and employment policies and services.

3. To create partnerships and collaboration with other neurodiverse charities to ensure young neurodiverse people are always at the forefront of actions and decisions that affect them.

4. To influence policy and practice by having meetings with ministers/government stressing the importance of listening to young people who are neurodiverse and to take their opinions and views seriously (in accordance to the UNCRC).

These objectives require training and support so we can advocate for other young people to MP's, Commissioners of public services and the Department for Education and Health.

We are also planning to visit and lobby the United Nations to bring about global policy changes for all young people, so we no longer experience the systemic exclusion and disadvantages that are the consequences of mistakenly assuming we have low ability, low intelligence or unemployable.

We thank the Listeners Fund & Awards for All for their support but ask you the public to enable us to achieve this and support our efforts by helping us raise money for an upcoming educational 48- hour visit to Auschwitz in October 2023. Our 24 hour visit to the United Nations in Geneva will be in June 2024. Thank You everyone for your support for our work.
