Butterfly Volunteers

In 2019 NNUH became the second NHS Trust in the UK to introduce Butterfly Volunteers, supporting patients at the end of their lives and enabling those who die in our hospital to have as good a death as possible.

Whilst the NHS provides the necessities, our hospital charity funds projects that make the hospital experience a better one for our patients, visitors and staff. All donations are used where they are needed most across our hospitals to support the best possible care for patients. Thank you.

Story

Butterfly Volunteers help make a difference for patients at the end of their lives, by providing comfort, company and support.

Having someone there in their final hours, focused on their needs, can make a huge difference to patients. Reassurance and support is also offered to families, whether that's organising a carer's passport, getting them a cup of tea, or arranging any additional help they might need.

Working closely with the Palliative Care and Chaplaincy teams, as well as ward staff as they provide for patients' medical needs, the Butterfly Volunteers make a huge difference at a difficult time for patients and their families, and with your support they will be able to do even more.

We hope to raise £250,000 by March 2024 to provide a new facility within the N&N Hospital for these dedicated volunteers, and for the families of those they are supporting, where they can offer privacy, space to sit and take a moment, and somewhere just to refocus and recharge.

With your support and generous donations, we can do more.
