Story
September is Children’s cancer awareness month. Help us to raise awareness of childhood cancers and raise funds for Cornwall’s Children’s Cancer Unit.
Together, we can make our hospital feel a little more like home.
We are asking all nurseries/schools/colleges across Cornwall to unite in holding a Non-School Uniform day
When: Friday 26th September 2025
Every year, sadly there are children in Cornwall diagnosed with cancer. Many will spend days, even weeks, in hospital, away from school, friends, and the comfort of their home.
At the heart of their care is the Children’s Cancer Unit at the Royal Cornwall Hospital — a place of compassion, expertise, and hope. But while the clinical team provides outstanding treatment, there is always room for improving facilities and supporting the children and their families. And you can help.
Support The Children’s Cancer Unit Fund of Royal Cornwall Hospitals Charity
Hold a non-uniform day at your school and your students can help raise vital funds to:
Enhance inpatient bedrooms to feel warm, homely and restful.
Improve play areas and teenage social spaces to support emotional wellbeing.
Provide creative resources, activities, and equipment that bring joy and distraction.
Support families – including siblings – who are navigating cancer alongside their loved one.
Together, we can help make hospital stays more comfortable. Together, we can give children and families across Cornwall the very best support on their cancer journey.
Together, we can hold a non-uniform day and help make a big difference in small lives.
Recently Cornwall based celebrity chef, Paul Ainsworth, visited the Children’s Cancer Unit to find out how funds donated to the Children’s Cancer Unit Fund will be used to improve hospital stays for our young patients and their families. You can watch his film here, where previous young patient, Coco, shows him around and interviews him about his fundraising to support the fund.
