Student Coaching Education

NorCal has been focused on certifying 13-17 year olds to be student coaches for their clubs and the community mainly in the classroom. NorCal Director of Student & Adult Coaching Education would like to expand the curriculum on and off the ice.

Closes 01/10/2026

The Northern California Youth Hockey Association or NorCal was founded in 1990. Since its inception, NorCal has been focused on helping Bay Area youth (boys and girls) and youth throughout Northern California learn, play, and love the sport of ice hockey. The core mission of NorCal is (1) to encourage, develop, and complement home, school, and physical education with a practical, disciplined, competitive, character building program for youth in Northern California through the sport of ice hockey; and (2) to educate and promote the sport of ice hockey for the mental and physical benefit of local youth in Northern California.

Story

Over 3,000 youth players in Northern California participate in ice hockey to learn the hard skills of skating, stick handling, and at times even officiating. Student coaching skills enables 13-17 year players learn how to lead, effectively communicate, and inspire younger players to enjoy the game. This program and the funding will enable more curriculum and on-ice training beyond more classroom learnings.
