NORLSAR are a highly trained, dedicated and motivated volunteer lowland search and rescue team.

They provide the Norfolk Police and the emergency services with specialist expertise to assist with the search for vulnerable missing persons throughout Norfolk in all weathers, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days per year.

Most individuals the team are deployed to search for are missing as result of mental health issues, and in some cases may be suicidal. NORLSAR’s aim is to find a missing person alive and return them to their family where they can gain ongoing support from professional organisations where required.

They have a Foot Team , a Dog Team and a Water Team. Based on the Norfolk Broads, the Water Team can be deployed all over the county and occasionally beyond to assist neighbouring teams. The Water Team require additional training in water-based skills to assist the emergency services with searches of The Broads network, rivers and other wetland areas, as well as working as a first responder to assist emergency services during flooding events.

Over the years, NORLSAR have been a reassuring presence for many Norfolk Superhero participants during the Swim and Kayak legs providing rescue and safety personnel out on the water.

The funds raised by the Norfolk Superhero will go towards buying two lighter, more dynamic inflatable boats and specialist equipment which will enable more efficient search and rescue operations for a missing person, as well as assist with local flood resilience.
