Since 2020, The McCarthy-Dixon Foundation (TMDF) has been dedicated to supporting people in crisis and disadvantage across Northamptonshire. Originally founded as an emergency food bank during the first COVID-19 lockdown, we have since expanded to provide vital support in four key focus areas. We strive to improve the lives of local people, and ensure long-term, positive change for those vulnerable and most in need.
Our Food Hub has provided assistance to over 103,000 people in need since 2020, working alongside over 90 Northamptonshire schools and local services, including social prescribers, mental health teams, domestic abuse services, and the children’s trust. We distribute regular and emergency food packages, essential personal care items, and household necessities like kitchen appliances and warm bedding. Our mission is to combat hunger and hardship while promoting long-term stability for individuals and families.
Partnering with over 90 Primary, Secondary, and Alternative Provision schools, we provide essential resources to families and children, including Breakfast Boxes, school shoes, coats, technology items, and Christmas gifts. Our goal is to empower every child with the tools they need to succeed academically and ensure families receive support, particularly during times of crisis or financial difficulty.
We run three weekly social clubs aimed at reducing isolation and fostering social connections, particularly for older individuals and those with disabilities or health conditions. Our clubs offer hot meals, live entertainment, exercise classes, affordable haircuts, and activities like bingo and indoor golf. Additionally, we provide a minibus transportation service for those facing mobility barriers and operate a Doorstep Buddies programme, offering home visits to those unable to leave their homes. Our monthly outings to local attractions further support community wellbeing.
Beyond social clubs, we offer a wide range of welfare initiatives designed to improve wellbeing and resilience. These include home improvements for those experiencing ill health or bereavement, gardening assistance, and 1-to-1 guidance to help individuals access essential services. Our educational programmes, such as cookery and digital inclusion classes, equip individuals with crucial life skills, fostering independence and confidence.
