On the 15th March, Northern Lights returned to the New Wimbledon stage to compete in the the National Final of the International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella. Having come out on top the previous two years in this very competition, and on the back of our recent win at the Open A Cappella Competition, our spirits were high, as was the pressure.

We are so proud to be able to announce, once again, that Northern Lights took home first place, reclaiming our crown as National Champions for a 5th time now, and making history as the first ever group from the UK to win the ICCA semi-finals three years in a row.

We are unbelievably excited to have made it through to the ICCA finals, which will take place in New York on the 26th April, where we will represent the UK amongst 9 other of the world’s best a cappella groups. We can’t wait to show our 8 incredible new members how it feels to perform on that broadway stage, and with a set better than ever, we will certainly be shooting for the stars.

Thanks to the wonderful, continuing support of Durham University, we have been lucky enough to receive a substantial amount of funding these last two years. However, this year, the financial burden of taking 15 people to New York will fall far more heavily upon us as a society. Therefore, we are looking to raise some money to enable us to experience this incredible opportunity this year.

We would hugely appreciate any donation that you might be able to spare - big or small. It would help us so much as a group, not only helping us get to New York in the first place, but helping our financial stability for the rest of the year and beyond, as we endeavour to create ever-more exciting opportunities for the group, such as a two week run at the Edinburgh Fringe.

From all of the group, we are so grateful for all of the love and support we have received on our journey so far. We can’t wait to perform on the iconic Town Hall stage at the end of April, where we hope we will continue spreading joy with our music, and making Durham University proud! 🩵⚡️🗽
