Story
Members of the club, as well as family and friends are tackling the highest Welsh peak on October 10th to raise funds for Neuro Walking Football Worcestershire.
About the Club
Neurological conditions affect 1 in 6 people in the U.K., and those who suffer from them have a significantly higher rate of loneliness and isolation. These are both detrimental risk factors for brain health. Here at Neuro Walking Football Worcestershire (Movers and Shakers FC) we endeavour to combat these issues through walking football. Founded in 2022, with the mission to encourage people with neurological conditions, particularly Parkinson’s disease, to keep active, the club has created a dedicated and encouraging safe space to allow those affected to spend a few hours playing the sport they love, and socialise with those walking the same path. We are the only club in the area that is specifically for those with neurological conditions, which highlights the importance of what we do.
Since its inception in 2022, the club has gone from 4 members to over 25, and was awarded ‘Grassroots Impairment Club of the Year’ in 2023 in acknowledgement of the club’s rapid growth which made it one of the larger impairment clubs in the country. The club were also recognised for the sense of fellowship amongst the members, and the involvement of not only those with neurological conditions, but the carers and partners too, who can often be overlooked.
We are hoping to raise essential funds to continue providing our fantastic support, whilst also allowing us to reach more people who could benefit from joining us.
