Water Testing Equipment

We are currently raising money in order to expand our watercourse testing within the Queen Thorne Parish. To allow us to do this, we require additional Kick Testing kits and identification guides, as well as providing training for our members.

NWG promote the conservation, protection and improvement of the physical and natural environment in the parish of Queen Thorne in particular, but not exclusively, by undertaking research into the environment and its biodiversity, and disseminating the results for the benefit of the public.

Story

How we started...

The Nature Watch Group was born out of the desire to protect and support the nature that is on our doorstep, in the Queen Thorne parish. Where national policy fails, small steps and local action can really make a difference. Kindness is at the heart of our ethos; towards each other and towards nature.

Initiation of the group was prompted by local residents noticing a sharp decline in wildlife. Many residents of the village had noticed a loss of aquatic life in the streams, a loss of amphibians and a decline in the volume and duration of the spring dawn chorus.

In the parish of Queen Thorne, the obvious place to start was with the streams. We are in a unique situation as all of our waterways originate here. We have initiated a combination approach to water testing. Training was made available for members of the group, with a view to fortnightly data collection during the summer.

The UK’s wildlife is amazing – but it’s in crisis. Over the last 50 years, 38 million birds have vanished from our skies, 97% of our wildflower meadows have been lost, and a quarter of all our mammals are now at risk of extinction... Where we are now...

In September 2023 we were awarded charitable status from the Charities Commission, this is a huge step forward and we are grateful for this legal recognition. We can now concentrate more on our research and monitoring work, but in order to do this, we require help funding further equipment and training - this is where you come in. Every donation we receive is vital in our work promoting the protection of biodiversity - we would not be able to do this without your wonderful support.
