Story
Our ambulance staff and volunteers really are 'going the extra mile' to be there when we need them the most. Can you go the extra mile for them by taking on and conquering the Outrun an Ambulance fundraising challenge?
It's designed to suit all people and all abilities. You don't need to complete the challenge in one go and you can do it as a team with each individual covering part of the distance (Zoe Larter, Head of Charity).
You can walk, run, cycle, swim, scoot, paddle or ride anything that is self-propelled.
Do it on your own, with friends or as part of a team.
Set your own time-frame for your challenge but aim to complete it within 3 months.
STEP 1: CHOOSE A DISTANCE based on the mileage in 2024 completed by the Community Response Vehicles (CRV), dedicated to volunteer Community First Responders (CFRs). Choose whatever fits your challenge best...
84 MILES is the distance an average CRV would have completed in a 12 hour shift by volunteer CFRs.
225 MILES is the average weekly mileage covered by a CRV.
30 MILES to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the South Western Ambulance Charity in 2025.
STEP 2: DECIDE HOW you want to do your mileage. You could run, walk (dog optional!), swim, cycle, etc., then set your time-frame (maximum 3 months) and plan to either go it alone or recruit your team.
STEP 3: PLAN YOUR FUNDRAISING. Set up your own JustGiving fundraising page and email charity@swast.nhs.uk for your Fundraising Pack.
STEP 4: GO FOR IT! Everyone who completes their Outrun an Ambulance challenge and raises at least £1 will receive a special Certificate of Thanks. Those fundraising heroes who complete their challenge and raise £100 or more will also be sent a brilliant medal.
Your supporters' donations to this Outrun an Ambulance challenge will contribute to the £210,000 Community Response Vehicle Appeal to buy, convert, sign-write and fully equip 7 new cars dedicated for volunteer CFR use across the South West.
(If the amount raised here should exceed the costs of the proposed purchase, conversion and equipping of the 7 CRVs then any overspend will be used to support the vital work of volunteer CFRs).
THANK YOU for your support and good luck with your Outrun an Ambulance challenge.
