Story

Oakleys story

Hi, we have been holding a range of charity events since 2013, raising money for our son Oakley who is now 9yrs old.

The fund raising target was £80,000 and we would like to thank everyone for their support and fundraising efforts thus far. The moneys raised from 2013 - 2018 have enabled Oakley to have a trip to St Louis, Missouri in America to have the SDR operation, successfully performed by Dr T.S Park. Through the five years post SDR Oakley has endured gruelling physiotherapy and tiring strength and conditioning training. Oakley was then able to balance and take his first steps towards walking independently. Oakley was able to walk short distances but tired very quickly and with a painful crouch.

On the 15th of August 2017 Oakley underwent a follow up operation at Southampton general Hospital to help with the painful crouch. This operation was to release the tightness in his ham-strings and was successfully performed by Dr Caroline Edwards. We put this operation off for four years to build Oakleys strength to be able to deal with the changes this operation would have in store for him. This operation can only be done a couple of times as the procedure becomes more difficult to do.

Oakley now comfortably walks with sticks as we continue to raise funds to help pay for more therapies for him to eventually walk unaided. From 2019 we aim to raise a further £58,000 to cover Oakleys future treatments and therapies.

Private Physiotherapy, strength/conditioning training and other and other forms exorcise which help Oakley are very expensive which is why we are constantly trying raise money for him and with your help he will be able to walk and run almost as normal as you and I.

More about Oakley:

Oakley was 18mths old when he was diagnosed with having Spastic Diplegia Cerebral Palsy. A couple of the symptoms are painful tightness in his leg muscles and a very weak core strength. Oakley was unable to sit or stand unaided and was only able to commando craw with his arms, dragging his limp legs behind him.

We are now fundraising with The Bradley Lowery Foundation.
