Help BCCLT to Renovate the Old Abattoir

Led by the Bishops Castle Community Land Trust and local people, this project will renovate the former Abattoir and give new life to a long-unused building by creating secure community storage space for local organisations, events and residents.

Our Trust provides affordable housing and community amenities and storage for the people of Bishops Castle and district. By supporting our appeal you will help us bring back to life a building left empty in the centre of town, and create a community storage space. Thank you!

Story

The old Abattoir has stood in Bishop’s Castle for 46 years— a reminder of the town’s working history and the people who built this community before us. Like many old buildings, it has slowly fallen out of use, but local people believe it still has an important role to play.

This campaign is about giving the building a new future.

The Bishop’s Castle & District Community Land Trust is leading a community-driven project to renovate the former Abattoir and transform it into a practical storage and shared-use space for local organisations, volunteers and community groups. At the moment, many local groups struggle to store equipment, materials and event resources safely and affordably. This project will create a secure, accessible space that can support community activity across the town for years to come.

But this is about more than bricks and mortar.

It is about local people coming together to protect a historic building, reduce waste by reusing what already exists, and create something genuinely useful for the community. Every donation helps bring an empty building back into meaningful use — supporting local projects, strengthening community life and ensuring this piece of Bishop’s Castle’s history continues to serve future generations.

With your support, the old Abattoir can become a valuable community asset once again.
