Update: Olympic 708 can be viewed 'in the open' at the Scottish Vintage Bus Museum open weekend: Dates are Saturday 22 and Sunday 23 August 2026. This will be a momentous weekend, and will be an important weekend in celebrating the unique history of JAA 708.
About us: Friends of King Alfred Buses (a registered charity) is delighted that the restoration of this iconic chassis-less monocoque underfloor-engined Leyland Olympic JAA 708 in the famous fleet of King Alfred Motor Services in Winchester, is well underway in a 3 year re-restoration programme.
Now in its second year, work is progressing well, using as much of the original vehicle as possible. There is still much to be done, but we will achieve this, keeping JAA 708 in the fleet of Friends of King Alfred Buses.
This work is necessary following a tragic fire on 8 December 2023 at Penton Mewsey, but JAA 708 is 'a survivor' and we look forward to the completion of this restoration, when once again, JAA 708 will happily grace the streets of Winchester at each of our 3 Running days each year.
