Story
In June this year, several of the rabbits in our care become critically unwell which cost us an absolute fortune in vet fees. Max, Brooke, Rupert, Dakota, Erin and Daphne were some of the contributors to our struggle and even though we did everything possible, spending thousands to save them, most of them passed away. Each had their own specific issues, non of it was linked and it was all just very very bad luck. Our reserves and more were very quickly depleted and each week, more and more bunnies needed surgeries, diagnostics, treatments and we have found it almost impossible to get back on top of this financially. Recently, we did manage to get our bill to under £3,000 (which is the lowest it’s been since June) but this quickly changed with catastrophic cases coming in and rabbits in desperate danger and despair needing urgent help and medical treatment - Eva, cooper, dexter and Ruby to name a few. We cannot comfortably turn away any rabbits where the situation is life or death, we would much rather the financial burden then actively choosing not to help.
What we really need, is to raise a large sum of money, to pay off our current vet bill and to help replenish our reserves to where they need to be. Once we are back on track, we can fully open our doors to rabbits that need a rescue space. We’ve built a large rescue community and have a huge amount of foster homes all over the UK, we would love nothing more than to put SRR back in full swing and help rabbits to the capacity we are set up to do.
As well as rescue, rehab and rehome, we are one of the largest rabbit sanctuaries in the UK. We are a permanent home to the most down and out, vulnerable, sick, disabled and behaviourally challenging rabbits. These rabbits take a large proportion of our funds, as 98% of them have ongoing medical issues that require frequent vet treatment, surgeries and diagnostics.
In September, we spent £12,000 on vet fees alone. TWELVE THOUSAND POUNDS. That figure is very sobering and just goes to show the crisis rabbits are facing, it shows how there is a serious problem with rabbits being neglected to the point rescues like us, are having to spend 10’s of thousands to try and right the wrongs we didn’t cause.
our target is £10,000 and we knows that’s a very tall ask. But we have nothing to lose and hopefully a lot to gain from you incredible people that donate to us ♥️
