“We saved someone’s life” read the title of an email I opened this past summer. In short, a community member in the midst of an opioid overdose had come to The Family Center’s door and was literally dying on our steps.

A Family Center staff member recalled the steps her team took to administer NARCAN, get this person help, and ultimately, save a life.

Thirty years ago, The Family Center was born in the midst of another epidemic destroying lives and ruining families. Three women and I had the audacious vision of responding to HIV/AIDS’s impact on children and families with integrated social, legal and health services.
