Story
The families we support in Osodo area are mainly elderly carers with large number of children, including HIV orphans. Some are HIV+ themselves. These families have been hit hard by the decline in the fishing industry - due to over fishing of Lake Victoria, the impact of sand harvesting which is devasting their land and now global warming related flooding. Many of the fish farms we helped them construct have been washed away, their homes have been destroyed. They have been forced to abandon their homes and sleep in make-shift shelters in schools, churches and community centres. Now COVID-19 threatens their lives. Please help The Mango Tree to support these families as well as helping us continue to provide educational assistance to those orphans who we are supporting in primary and secondary school. Help us to:
Provide emergency shelter and distribute food packages to those who have lost their homes
Support our primary and secondary school children, who need access to online learning materials, but who have no access to computers. We are printing out and distributing educational resources and encouraging those with phone to keep in touch with each other and TMT regularly for learning.
Provide targeted tuition to children taking their secondary school exams
Encourage more people to join The TMT farmers cooperative to build household resilience, strong community leadership and provide loans to those who need them - particularly those families who recently had their fishponds or farms flooded.
