"I never thought the outdoors was for people like me."
That’s what R, a young woman from an inner-city estate, told us on her first Wellness Walk. She’d grown up surrounded by concrete & chaos, not countryside. The idea of walking up a mountain felt as distant as the summit itself & when she did she didn't see anyone who looked like her, she didn't feel welcome.
But someone brought her along to a Wellness Walk. Quietly. Kindly. No pressure, just presence.
That first walk led to another. Then a personal skills course. Then, one day, R with confidence in her voice, R asked if she could join our Volunteer Leader Training scheme - a chance to lead people into the hills, support her community, be an inspiration to others.
Now, she’s one of our qualified walk leaders. A good person helping others take the first steps to feeling better, knowing they belong.
This is what Outdoors for Everyone makes possible.
When you donate or fundraise, you help remove the barriers that stop people like R — people who’ve experienced fear, exclusion, or simply never been invited — from discovering the freedom, healing & power that nature can offer.
You help them gain not just access, but to be part of a community. Not just confidence, but maybe qualifications.
And in doing so, you do one of the quiet little bits of good that make the world a fairer, happier and better place.
