Story
Sport changes lives, improves mental health, and LGBTQ+ grassroots sports clubs are a real refuge for people who have often spent much of their lives being told sport is not for them. Out For Sport connects people to LGBTQ+ sport in London. We're volunteer-run and have been making a positive difference in our community since 1998. We achieve our mission through three annual events:
1. LGBTQ+ Sports Fair: A recruitment event for our LGBTQ+ clubs. Over 300 people come to meet clubs, chat to members, have a fun time, and (hopefully!) sign up to try out a few sports.
2. Out For Sport LGBTQ+ Sports Awards: The Awards celebrate the invaluable work of LGBTQ+ people who are transforming lives through sport in over 35 community sports clubs. There are no other awards in London (and possibly the UK) that reward LGBTQ+ people for their efforts in community sports. The impact of the Awards is big: They build confidence, encourage, and celebrate rare achievements in a demographic with lower participation levels in club sports.
3. LGBTQ+ Sports Festival: It brings together LGBTQ+ sports clubs for the ultimate come-and-try-out day. The Sports Festival provides lots of free sports sessions for people interested in sports and recreation within the LGBTQ+ community.
