The Over and Above Cancer and Wellbeing Centre appeal now stands at £900k. It is exciting times.....work has started on the new centre, however we still have a way to go to reach the £1.5million target.

The centre will support cancer patients, people with long-term conditions and their families through every stage of their journey, from diagnosis, through treatment and beyond. This will be a first for North Devon, with the nearest cancer support centres currently in Exeter, Plymouth and Torbay. It will mean for the first time North Devon will have a support centre on its doorstep for all patients.

The centre will include an open-plan lounge diner, a clinic and complementary therapy room, counselling rooms and a meeting/activity room, which will be suitable for activities such as exercise classes, bra fittings, look good, feel great days and so much more.

The centre will also have a separate wing providing accommodation for individuals and families who have loved ones in hospital. This means that if a child is being treated on the Caroline Thorpe childrens ward in Barnstaple, the family could stay over in the accommodation wing so that they can be close by to their child at all times. This would particularly help those families that live some distance from the hospital such as Holsworthy, Lynmouth and Chulmleigh or families who want to stay over when their loved one is near their end of life and they want to be close by.
