40th Anniversary Matched Fundraising Appeal

A generous donor has agreed to match all donations to the 40th Anniversary Appeal up to a maximum of £2,000. If donations exceed £2,000 they will not be matched but will still count to our appeal total

Oxford Youth Choirs is a group of six choirs for children up to age 19, the most recent being Musical Mayhem for babies and toddlers. These include the acclaimed Oxford Girls' Choir. Founded in 1984 by Richard Vendome, Oxford Girls' Choir was a pioneering vision for girls' singing and is now the oldest group of its kind in the UK. Our children are drawn from all backgrounds. We provide a welcoming atmosphere allowing their confidence to grow and their musicality to bloom. We encourage younger children to sing alongside older children, to stimulate their potential, whilst older singers support the teaching in the younger choirs, building new skills. Our choirs are musically ambitious and perform to a consistently-high artistic standard. Our success is built on discipline and teamwork, developed by our outstanding teachers. The choirs benefit enormously from exposure to workshops run by experts such as Roderick Williams and Edward Higginbottom (former Organist & Director of Music at New College). Our senior students regularly attain ABRSM Diplomas while still with the choir. Former members have gone on to become successful Oxbridge choral scholars, singer-songwriters, opera singers, music theatre artists, music educators, composers and choral directors.

Story

We have set up an appeal for funds to support the choirs to continue to provide excellent opportunities for our members in our 40th Anniversary year.

A generous donor has agreed to match all donations to the Appeal up to a maximum of £2,000. So for a limited period you can double your contribution, by giving what you can to support the choirs.

Oxford Youth Choirs was established 40 years ago as Oxford Girls’ Choir by Richard Vendome, the first choir of its kind in the U.K. We are now a thriving group of six choirs for children aged up to 19 from Oxford and surrounds. The choirs provide a welcoming atmosphere allowing children’s confidence to grow and their musicality to bloom. The choirs’ alumnae now number in their hundreds and many have gone on to musical careers or continue to pursue their love of singing alongside other endeavours.

Oxford Youth Choirs has not come out of the 2020-2022 period unscathed by the global Pandemic, and whilst we continue to operate the same groups as previously, we now have significantly fewer singers in the older age groups, which means our fee income has dropped substantially. Our costs have also increased over the last few years and we are asking for funds to enable us to broaden what we can offer to choir members in the coming years.

Please celebrate the choirs’ achievements by giving to our Matched Fundraising 40th Anniversary appeal
