Story

Did you know?

• In 2025, an estimated 2,800 Australians were living with Motor Neurone Disease (MND)

• Two people are diagnosed and two pass away from the disease every day

• The lifetime risk is 1 in 300

• Median survival time of 2.5 years from diagnosis

At Pace at Sleeman, we have witnessed the effects of MND first-hand. In 2020, we lost one of our members, David Keys, after a short 18-month battle. Another of our members, Moira Rose, was diagnosed earlier this year. With the support of her family and the Pace Team, she is determined to maintain her strength and fitness by attending Pace a few times per week.

Right now, there is no cure for MND. We can make a difference by increasing awareness and by helping raise funds for research. At the forefront of these efforts, the University of Queensland’s Research Team for Motor Neurone Disease (MND) and Frontotemporal Dementia (FTD) are working tirelessly to unlock the cause, improve treatment and find a cure.
