Story
Pacing to Paget is back this year, in the form of Pacing to Paget 2gether, and will be bigger and better than ever! Shaun enjoyed his Pacing to Paget experience last year so much, he is back for more and wants to transform pacing, into £'s for Halesworth Volunteers, and he has invited some friends to share the pain of 80k!
On Wednesday 3rd June, once again Shaun will be walking 40 kilometres around Halesworth and out to some of the villages. In addition to this, we will have some fabulous friends who will be clocking up another 40 kilometres on the treadmill at Perform Fitness (Behind Chinny’s and Mens’ Shed) throughout the day. In total, Shaun and friends will be walking a total of 80 kilometres!
80 kilometres is the same distance from our office to the James Paget Hospital and back, a return trip! Shaun and friends are going that extra mile to support the work we do locally helping people to lead happier and healthier lives.
As a volunteer for our community car service, Shaun knows first hand what a difference Halesworth Volunteers makes to people’s lives. HV has over 40 years’ experience of recruiting volunteers to support the local community, supporting vulnerable and isolated people in Halesworth and its surrounding rural villages and ensuring they are able to remain living in their own homes for longer and to live happy and independent lives. Isolation Busters is our award-winning befriending programme. Our team of volunteer befrienders support people who are alone, visiting for a cup of tea and a natter, a trip out or attending a social group/activity. This also includes our monthly community lunch, afternoon teas and trips out and about as well as our shopping service for those who need a bit of help. The Community Car Service helps people who are not able to travel independently get to medical appointments and social visits. Our wonderful volunteer drivers always go above and beyond to make sure people get to their appointments on time and home again safely. The Community Larder, in partnership with St Mary’s Church, is a place where people can shop, bring and share food or make a donation. People who are in need can visit for a top up shop, for a small charge per bag. The larder is open to all, with lots of fresh seasonal produce available. Our volunteers also help out with dog walking, odd jobs or a one-off garden tidy, and if we cannot help, we will find out who can!
Shaun will be walking 40 kilometres around Halesworth on Wednesday 3rd June, look out for that hat and cape again and at the same time some of our wonderful volunteers will be clocking up another 40 kilometres in the Perform Fitness Gym. Shaun will be stopping off at some of our favourite places and would love to see you on the day. By supporting Shaun and friends as they endeavour to cover 80 kilometres, you too can make a difference and make local lives better.
Shaun says "Let's turn steps into miles and miles into £'s and support our community" Every donation, however big or small makes a huge difference and enables us to continue the work we do within Halesworth and the surrounding villages. Thank you!
