When 2/3 children with a diagnosable mental health issue don't get treatment from the NHS, they turn to parents - yet everything you knew about parenting is changed. PMH aim to skill and support 1 million parents through this experience by 2026, with vital resources, guides and connection.

Story

Parenting Mental Health is a community and registered charity that supports parents of young people with mental health issues with a mission to support 1 million parents by 2025.

With more and more young people deemed not eligible for treatment, parents are having to deal with life changing situations they are simply not equipped for, or supported through.

Parenting Mental Health was set up in 2016 by founder, Suzanne Alderson, because she couldnt find the kind of information, support or understanding she was desperate for when her 14 year old daughter became depressed and suicidal. Starting as a Facebook group and now a registered charity, PMH supports parents across multiple digital communities.

At Parenting Mental Health, our mission is to end generational mental illness and we believe that parents are a vital and often overlooked part in the fight against poor mental health in young people. When your child becomes ill, you automatically blame yourself and your poor parenting and current medical protocols can magnify these feelings, making parents feel judged, incapable and ashamed. We have shown that changing this has an incredible impact.

We know if we can support them, they can help reduce the severity and duration of many mental health conditions by changing their behaviour. Our training, peer mentorship and community support have help parents grow in strength and resilience.

Your donation will be used to fund interventions such as Listening Circles, In-person groups and keep the 23,000 strong community a fully moderated safe space. We know through our research that our interventions impact positively on parents' mental health and their families, improving overall wellbeing by an average of 69%.

This is why YOUR support and donations are so needed and so appreciated. Parenting Mental Health is operated by a small army of dedicated and talented volunteers but we need to secure services so we can guarantee our ongoing support for families and scale our interventions. Without kind supporters like you, we cannot continue this important and pressing work.

We'd like as many people as possible to learn about the challenges of parenting a child with a mental health issue and the impact it has on families and futures. Any support you can offer this Christmas, or on an ongoing basis, is so gratefully received and you will help change outcomes for young people and families by supporting Team PMH.

Thank you and Merry Christmas, from our family to yours.
