Story
The Patrick Wild Centre is a research centre at the University of Edinburgh dedicated to improving understanding of genetic conditions that affect brain development, such as fragile X syndrome, SYNGAP1-related intellectual disability and CDKL5 deficiency disorder.
By bringing together clinical and fundamental scientists, the Centre works to advance research that can lead to better care, support, and treatments for people living with these conditions.
The Patrick Wild Centre was established in 2010 with the generous support of Dr Alfred Wild who studied medicine at Edinburgh, and Gus Alusi and Reem Waines, a family whose son Kenz has fragile X syndrome.
The Centre is named in memory of Dr Wild’s brother, Patrick, who lived with severe autism in the early part of the 20th century at a time when there was no treatment and in tribute to the brothers’ parents who cared for Patrick throughout his life.
Donations help fund vital research and strengthen collaboration with scientists and communities. With your support, the Patrick Wild Centre can continue working towards making a real and meaningful difference by providing a better understanding of these conditions and outcomes for those affected through research.
