Story

Who are we?

Preston Community Hub founded in March 2020, is a Community Centre based in the Fishwick & St Matthews area of Preston. Our Community Organisation serves the members of the community in group activities, social support, public information, and other purposes. We provide a platform that gives people an opportunity to socialise, learn and access key services. The Preston Community Hub - Foodbank established during the pandemic is a crucial part of the community, serving the vulnerable and less fortunate by providing key services such as fresh and non-perishable foods, essentials and more. A Food market open to all operated every weekend to prevent waste.

Fast forward to 2022, we have evolved and believe that we have become an integral part of this beloved community of Fishwick & St Matthews.

Our community members need a voice. We are the forgotten community

In order for us to be the voice of our community we have a committed team of volunteers that believe in our philosophy of bringing something positive to the table and believing in one simple value:

Where Our Community Matters

At Preston Community Hub we want to create an inclusive environment, where everyone feels welcomed and can access the services we provide.

What do we currently offer?

We are at the start of a long journey, where we believe we can create something much more! A collective community spirit which envisages positive change and services which reflect that.

To summarise we want to bring a new definition to community centres A hub for all. Providing key services, teaching mutual respect, digital inclusion, youth programmes and gardening. Catering for people of all ages, genders and race, free of any discrimination.

Whatever can be thought of can potentially be achieved. It takes great people to come together and leave a lasting legacy!

The Plan

We need to look at the refurbishment of our current building to allow us to introduce these services.

We have a 2-phased plan split into our long term and short term targets. Phase one (Short-term) can be seen below:

Roof Repairs - Major roof repairs are needed in order to provide services for our community safely.

Industrial Kitchen Can serve as a soup kitchen, breakfast club and can be used for our tea and coffee mornings.

Toilets - In need of a major TLC. Introducing disabled access toilets to cater for all.

Halls - Allowing us to rent spaces out catering to occasions and celebrations such as birthday parties, festivals etc.

IT Suite - Allowing us to host a range of seminars, workshops, establishing a job centre and homeworking club.

Below is an interior plan for Phase 1:

Why are we doing this?

Fishwick & St Matthews is a deprived and secluded community. Our aim is to be the catalyst for change!

We have a long term vision. A local, modern, diverse, community hub that provides services for all. Providing a platform for people to grow, prosper and achieve excellence.

What support do we currently have?

Below we have organisations that have continued supporting our cause:

We also have our foodbank partners and providers including Tesco, Asda, Morrisons, Lidl, Aldi, FareShare, Co-op to name a few.

Why we need you!

Preston Community Hub is a well-established Community Hub at the heart of Fishwick & St Matthews. We do have volunteers who are committed to the cause and have given up a lot of time to help us achieve our goals. In reality this isn't enough to keep our organisation going. We want to introduce new and exciting services to our community. In order to do this we need your help. Your donation will go towards the refurbishment and maintenance of our Community Hub. This will allow us to use the indoor space safely and introduce crucial services such as a kitchen, IT Suite and an Indoor Hall for activities.
