At PeacePlayers International - Northern Ireland we use sport - in particular the game of basketball - to build bridges between children and young adults who live in divided communities. Our programmes are based on the belief that children who play together can learn to live together.

Story

For the past 20 years, PeacePlayers has shown that peace is possible. We’ve cultivated a community of 25,000 youth from diverse groups, giving them the skills and the confidence to act as leaders and change agents in their schools and neighbourhoods.

PeacePlayers uses basketball to build lasting friendships among young people from communities with histories of conflict, teaches them the dynamics of conflict and how to overcome it, and most importantly, how to share this knowledge with others.

However, cultivating a thriving, shared Northern Ireland will take more than individual impact; therefore, PeacePlayers Northern Ireland combines grassroots youth development with broad institutional engagement, impacting both interpersonal divisions and the systems that fortify community divides.

- Our Goal is improved relations between the historically divided community of Northern Ireland.

- Our Vision is of inspired and confident children and young people building positive relationships and promoting sustainable peace in Northern Ireland.

- Our Mission is to use sport, in particular the game of basketball, to create opportunities for young leaders to promote respect and mutual understanding between the historically divided community of Northern Ireland.

The Polar Plunge brings supporters of PeacePlayers - Northern Ireland together to dive into the Irish Sea during the Christmas break. This year our brave staff and supporters will be taking on the Polar Plunges #Freeze4Peace challenge on the 30th of December!

Over the past number of years, brave souls have taken to the icy waters of the Irish Sea to participate in PeacePlayers - Northern Ireland's challenge. This year, on our 8th annual #Freeze4Peace challenge, we're hoping you will join us, support us and give, to help us reach our goal of £500

With your support, PeacePlayers Northern Ireland can continue its work in becoming more sustainable in our effort to create safe spaces for young leaders to form friendships and become advocates for peace and justice in our community.
