Story
Message from Head Coach Jay Tiedemann:
After my first phone call with Rick Hartzell, I was excited about the thought of building a championship women’s wrestling program at Upper Iowa University. That excitement has only grown since moving to Iowa and seeing the passion, dedication, and loyalty of the Upper Iowa fanbase.
Our preseason went very well and exceeded my expectations. Though we have a young squad, the ladies pushed themselves in the weight room and wrestling room. We’re creating a culture of grit, discipline, and accountability within this program. Our goal is to develop into a team capable of contending for conference and national trophies.
This season, we will compete in several individual tournaments, as well as team dual meets. We’re excited to compete in the GLVC conference alongside three teams from the GLIAC this season. Competition will be tough, but our women are relishing the challenge of testing themselves against some of the best teams in the nation.
Mark Your Calendars
The first-ever home women’s wrestling match will take place on Friday, January 30, in Dorman Gym against Morningside University and Luther College. We expect a full house and a loud environment to support our ladies!
Women's Wrestling Needs
Your support of the Peacock Women's Wrestling is vital to the growth and success of the program. This year, your generous donations will impact the Peacock Women's Wrestling facility with the creation of a locker room, some visual upgrades to the women’s wrestling room in Garbee Hall, and some additional exercise equipment to increase strength and conditioning year-round. There is so much pride throughout Peacock Nation, and we want our team to reflect that same pride walking in and out of practice each day. Our wishlist includes:
• Wooden sports lockers
• Keypads for the team to have 24/7 access to their practice room
• Competition mat (freestyle) for Dorman Gym
• Exercise bikes
• Pull-up bars
On behalf of our entire program, thank you in advance for your generosity. We are so grateful for all the support and encouragement from the Peacock family.
