Perthshire Rugby Club has stood at the heart of Scottish rugby for generations, a place where players, young and old, have grown, learned, and thrived. For years, we have called the Gannochy Pavilion on the North Inch in Perth our home. But in October 2023, disaster struck.
Torrential rains brought devastating floods, washing over our pitches and seeping into our facilities, leaving a trail of destruction. Our pitches, kit and equipment were ruined, a financial hit that cost the club thousands. While Bell’s Sports Centre remains closed to this day, Perthshire Rugby Club refuses to give up.
With the relentless effort of our volunteers, we undertook a massive clean-up operation, restoring what little we could. Against the odds, we reopened our doors, determined not to let the floodwaters wash away our community spirit.
The reality is, this flood was just one of many challenges we face. Our club has grown beyond the limits of our facilities:
Our pitches suffer from poor drainage, turning to mud in winter and rock-hard in summer, posing serious injury risks.
Our single floodlit pitch forces teams to squeeze into limited training slots, meaning younger players miss out on vital development.
Our changing rooms were built for a different era and cannot accommodate our growing women’s and youth sections fairly.
But this crisis has led to an incredible opportunity. We are now negotiating a long-term lease on the Gannochy Pavilion, giving us full control of the building. This allows us to plan a transformational £1.3 million redevelopment—not just for rugby, but for the entire community.
Our vision goes beyond our club. We are already working with Parkrun, Volleyball, and other sports groups to create a shared, inclusive space. The upgraded facilities in central Perth will provide:
✅ Eight modern, self-contained changing rooms for men, women, and juniors
✅ New floodlights to allow safe, year-round training for all teams
✅ Enhanced pitches with proper drainage, ensuring safe play in all seasons
✅ A revitalised clubhouse, making the pavilion a true community hub
This is not just about sport. It’s about giving our city a place to gather, train, and grow—regardless of background or ability.
We are incredibly grateful for the support and guidance of our key stakeholders, including the SRU, Gannochy Trust, Sportscotland, Perth & Kinross Council, local companies, and community groups. Our partners have been consistent in their message—Perthshire Rugby Club must take the lead in shaping its future and we will support where we can.
We look forward to continued collaborations and support and in the meantime, Perthshire RFC will get busy generating our financial contribution. Together, we are not just rebuilding facilities; we are building a stronger, more inclusive sporting community for generations to come.
Every donation, big or small, will bring us closer to creating a lasting home for Perthshire Rugby Club and a welcoming space for everyone.
